E= Eerie colours with Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils

So many blog posts, so little time LOL!
It's time for another pencil challenge with us over at the Pencil Cases blog...this week it's all about spooky Halloween/Autumn colours and of course, colouring with my amazzzzzzzinnnggg Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils which I am totally in love with. Sorry Prisma's, I know you're all lonely on that shelf over there but right now I need my Lyras because they're easier on my neck and hands...

My favourite season. This image is from the sponsor of the challenge, Oddball Art and I just adore her, check out the blog post to find out where you can get her. I was a bit of a div and forgot as usual to write my colours down as I went along, needless to say it was a selection from the 72 set LOL!

When I came to do my photo I hadnt had chance to make a card and she looked really dull just cut out so I threw - literally - a quick little canvas together using a watercolour art board. I had all my stash in the car and couldnt be bothered to get it all out so I mixed up some pan pastels with water to create a wash and then just dripped and splattered it on the canvasboard, and stamped a little sentiment. As I was splashing about a bit I got loads of splashes onto the image but I like it - gives her character I think!

Make sure you pop over and join in the challenge you can win some of these awesome pencils!

Christmas Colours with Graph'It markers

Hey Crafters! It's Colour challenge day over at Graph'It today so why dont you go and join in the challenge - you can win some really great digis and markers so well worth a trip and hitting that Linky Button!

The challenge this week is to use one of these palettes for inspiration....

I love Oddball Art images. I have to be honest and admit that I forgot what the colour palette was meant to be this week but I had a massive booboo when I coloured these images. I decided to do a funky background but forgot to mask my images off and sprayed Mix'It solution over the entire piece - eeek! It was like a scene from Chucky with all that bleeding everywhere! I was distraught I can tell you! But when I looked it was worse around the outer edges really so I decided to cut the images and then decoupage them rather than start from scratch.
So in the end I coloured a background onto a card front using 7250 and then sprayed with Mix'It to create snow. I then went a bit berserk with my Graph'It Shake White swoonable pen to create a flurry of snow.
I need to point you in the direction of the top and bottom edges of my card - see all the glittery stuff? This is SO cool!
I was mooching at 6am (dont ask) in Tesco's one day and came across the most sparkly glitter TAPE, yes Tape! Not even looking at the price it went straight in my basket OF COURSE. Now, this tape is pants at sticking but my oh my it's stunning to look at! See if you can find it, I reckon it will be great for sticking on wrapping paper and it's great on normal card and paper but I tried it on a gift bag the other week and it was rubbish. Anyway, it tears real easy, so this was just a tiny strip torn down the centre and stuck to the top and bottom. It has the glitter texture to it too - not a shiny surface - which is cool! So then I actually took 7220 and 7250 and coloured over the edge to actually combine it into the card - hey presto, glittery snow borders, I love it! And because the Shake pens are acrylic based the white also went straight on top too...I can see me using this a whole lot more, so wish you could buy sheets of it!  In hindsight it would also die-cut and I wish I'd done that with the sentiment, I think it would fit on the tape ok...

Darks with Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils

Happy Saturday! Time for a new challenge over at the Pencil Case today!

If you havent been over there yet it's our new challenge blog for the amazingly wonderfully epicly brilliant (I like them, right?) Lyra Rembrandt Polycolour pencils!
Boy do I love these!
Love my Prisma's and Polychromos too but I love these more right now - SO SO easy to blend and lay down colour, my neck has and still is really bad at the moment and I keep having some dexterity issues in my hands so I can't be doing with any colouring which is heaby going, I just can't do it. But the Lyra R PC's are so soft and easy to use its not affecting me at all which is just what I need right now.

Having said that I got a bit behind this week and the one and only evening i had chance to colour I had a banging headache and my neck was seriously sore...I was going to wimp out but got my pencils out to see how I got on. Now I confess, I was aching and struggled a bit and I did rush this, but I think it's important to be honest - I managed to colour this in about an hour without much effort. If you're struggling go with darker colours so you can get a heavy colour laydown without having to do much work and it's much faster if you don't have much time too! Think about it, if you use dark pencils you can get the lighter tones by applying less pressure rather than starting light and then having to go darker and darker.

I do this a lot with pencils - because they give you such a wide range of tones theyre so much more forgiving.

It can be a bit tricky when you think 'Darks' but you can actually achieve this quite easily - really it just means contrast, if you get really good contrast between light and dark this will make your image really pop and the darks then become much darker without really being too hard to achieve. Optical illusion!
I adored this image from our lovely sponsor Melonheadz...this was from the Wizards Bundle here - they supply you with a bundle with little supporting elements so I pulled them all together in Word and just made my own little scene....I should probably have gone much darker but I really wanted to get a nice glow effect going on...
Colours I used are (sorry this might not be 100% as I forgot to write them down!)
Skin: 82 Brown Ochre, Umber, Light Carmine
Clothes: 55 Night Green, Violet
Cauldron & Cat: Black with a little Violet added
Bubbles: Night green, Veridien, Violet, Gold ochre
Background: Gold ochre, light carmine
White 01 to blend

So what are you waiting for? Go join in the challenge we have amazing prizes!

See you next time! x
