How crafters can own a million colors (almost) of Daniel Smith watercolor paint for under $30

Hello! This is Kassi and today I am sharing an insight into using Daniel Smith watercolor paints in my craft coloring! This is one of my favourite mediums to use when I color my cards - I think I may be a little addicted and you will see why below!

You can find the products I'm using here at Polkadoodles (see at the end for links) - and I think when you see the swatches etc I was able to create from this tiny little pack below you will be astounded.

Nikky and I both ADORE these Watercolor Dots which are produced by Daniel Smith, so we talked about how we could really show you, as crafters, how simple and easy, but most of all how AFFORDABLE this system is for a crafter to use - no more spending an arm and a leg trying to buy a million colors of paint!

I hope you find this little journey with me interesting and will give these stunning paints a try out soon...

Watercoloring the brand new gnome digital stamp with Kassi!

It's Kassi here today and I've been playing with my water colours again but this time with Polkadoodles NEW gnome digital stamps!

*Confetti Dot Card Friendly*
skin- Quin Gold., Quin Lilac
hair- Jane's Grey, Permanent Orange
frosting- Jane's Grey
yellow- Quin. Gold
teal- Amazonite Genuine, Jane's Grey, Moonglow
red- Anthraquinoid Red, Sap Green, Jane's Grey
brown- Anthraquinoid Red, Quin. Gold, French Ultramarine
ground- Moonglow, Amazonite Genuine

My printer doesn't like thick paper, so I use a lightbox to transfer my printed digi stamps onto cold press watercolor paper. I use very light pencil lines so the lines will disappear when painted.

I wanted to use just the Daniel Smith Confetti Dot cards to paint this, however there aren't really great skin tones... So I mix my own!

It's very simple, and you can adjust the color to fit your needs.

For light skin, I mix Quinacridone Gold and Quinacridone Lilac. More of the gold and it will lean to a more orange skin, while more of the lilac gives it a rosier color. You can make the color lighter by adding more water, and darker by using less water.

For darker skin I mix Quinacridone Gold, Anthraquinoid Red, and a SMALL amount of French Ultramarine.  Again, you can adjust the color by playing with the ratios, and adjust the intensity by using more or less water.

Are you going to give it a go?

Until next time,
Kassi x

Creating a Spring card with the most adorable furry friends!

Eulanda here today and I've brought you a cute outdoor birthday scene starring Horace & Boo!

This Horace & Boo - Surprise polymer stamp is also available in digi form.  As you can tell by the image, I've added a whole outdoors landscape using my Prismacolor pencil crayons. I think I'm living vicariously through my scenes.  🤣🤣

I popped up the image on the Squarey Swirly Hearts die and used papers from the the Hearts & Happiness 6" x 6" paper pack.  This pack contains such pretty subtle peaches and blues and just perfect for those spring and summer projects.

I created the the saying using the Super Sentiments collection that comes with 49 clear polymer stamps.  So easy to make up any saying for every day and occasion cards!  I added a few wooden stars that I painted with some gesso to create more of a shabby look.

Thought I would add a layer of lace topped by some peach rhinestone lace to just finish off the card.

Are you starting to creating those spring/summer/ cards now too?

Thanks for stopping by today!

Eulanda x

Get splashing around with watercolours and this adorable digital stamp!

Hello everyone! It's Kassi here with another adorable watercolouring guide!

To get started, the stamp I used is the Polkadoodle's Too Cute Eli splashing.  The water colours I have used are by Daniel Smith:
Elephant- Lunar Black, Quinacridone Gold, Moonglow, Rhodonite Genuine
Yellow- Hansa Yellow Medium, Quinacridone Gold, Moonglow
Water- Phthalo Green (BS), Imperial Purple

This is also a Confetti Dot Card friendly project!

A great way to color shadows is by adding a little bit of the complimentary color.
Complimentary colors sit directly across from each other on the color wheel, and when mixed together they neutralize each other... however if you just add a little, you get a desaturated shadow color! Purple is the complimentary color for yellow, so I used a little Moonglow in the darkest shadow areas.

You can also get some surprising results.. like this blue I've used for the puddle color...
It's made from purple and green as shown in the image below!

Both the purple and the green have have a good amount of blue in them, so when mixed together the blue becomes the main color. The remaining red (from the purple) and yellow (from the green) make orange (blue's complimentary color) so they desaturate the blue.

Aren't colors amazing?!?

I hope this inspires you to get creative with your watercoloring!

Until next time,

Kassi x

A little bit of Christmas in April! How to bring digital stamps to life with Liz!

Hi everyone! It's Liz here again and today marks the day for my final post on the Polkadoodles DT.

For today's card I've made a Christmas card as a reminder that it's a good idea to make them all year around so that when December comes around again you don't have to spend lots of time that you don't really have to make more cards than you thought you needed. At least that's how my Decembers tend to be. Too many cards to make and not enough time!

The stamp I have used is called Feeding the Birds and is a digital stamp. I've positioned it to the very side of the panel made sure it was big enough to get all the details to show properly.

The card itself is super easy. I've taken a matching piece of scrap paper I had laying around and made a border at the top, which was added with foam tape for dimension. The same goes for the sentiment. A handful of matching sequins around the text finished off the card.

Copics used: B0000, B91, B93, B95, B97, B99, BV20, BV23, BG000, N0, N1, N3, W5, W7, W10, E00, E02, E08, E13, E15, E18, E19, E42, E43, E44, E71, E74, E77, E79, R22, R24, R29, R89, G21, G24, G94, G99

It's been a fun experience, so thanks for having me. I hope you've all had a wonderful Easter and that you had some time to be creative as well :)
